Church Ilkley

The wettest summer since records began and we went to Yorkshire.

Our cottage was next to the River Wharfe, which for most of the time was high and coloured. So much for two weeks of fishing but I did manage a few evenings (see the Fishing diary).

We stayed close to Addingham, near to Ilkley , which is a delightful town. Despite the weather we had a pretty good time, and there was some sun, just not much of it.

The stone was in the small group of mill cottages where we were staying and the river scene was also nearby.

We walked into Ilkley from our cottage and this bench provided a suitable photo opportunity.

More Addingham
The first two pictures were taken on a walk from Addingham towards Bolton Abbey.
The shot of Helen on the gate was when we went for a drive one day.
The sunset was taken behind our cottage looking along the River Wharfe.

Howeth & Pateley Bridge
Helen by a floral wheelbarrow in Howeth, and Mum and Helen enjoying a bite to eat, also in Howeth. The classroom was in a local museum at Pateley Bridge.

Saltaire
We went to Saltaire where Titus Salt built a model town by the River Aire.

Cow & Calf Rocks
This rocky outcrop is just outside of Ilkley.
We were quite worried about the sheep.

Joanne joins us
Joanne, Helen & Jamie by river

Joanne and family joined us for the first week, which was the wettest one although we did manage to make the best of it.

A walk down to the river from the cottage where Joanne was staying took us to the 'Steeping Stones', not that you could see them under the raging torrent!
