I recently re-jiggered my network storage after an unsuccessful foray into a proper NAS system. To say I didn’t get on with the NAS (a QNAP) is an understatement.
I had bought a second 500G SATA drive to match one I already owned, the intention being to use these as a RAID pair in the NAS. Having abandoned the NAS, I used one of these drives as my main network-connected storage, with the existing Mini-Max drive acting as its backup. The Time Capsule was then redeployed in its intended role as a Time Machine backup volume for our three Macs.
This arrangement is working very well.
